Growth Plate Fracture in Big Toe

My 2 year-old has a growth plate fracture in her left big toe. How likely is this to cause a problem in later years? Will they need to cast her? If so, how high does the cast go and generally how long would it be left on? The injury happened about a week ago and the fracture seems to be aligned okay.

My 14 year old son broke his growth plate on his right big toe.  His surgery was on Sept. 14th.  It required two pins to be put in his toe to hold it together.  He has been in a cast every since.  Hopefully in another week he will be fine.  Has not experienced much pain since the injury occured.
