HELLO? Could someone please help me?

I am kenneltech and I asked a few questions a little bit down the forum, could someone please help?  I am seriously upset and in a lot of pain and I've been to two doctors that seem to do nothing.  I have been told that my knee needs full replacement and that I also have quite a few stress fractures in it, but them he hands me a pamphlet and tells me to decide what I want to do!!!  He said the tear was so bad that it wrapped around to the back of my knee.  He said he wouldn't splint it because "splints don't stay on people unless they have REALLY SKINNY LEGS!"  So, I said, "well,  do you suppose the STRESS FRACTURES MAY BE BECAUSE I'VE BEEN WALKING AROUND ON AN UNSTABLE KNEE FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS?  CAN YOU CAST IT OR SOMETHING!!!"

Then the other doctor tells me I have a "mild tear."  I don't know what to do, and I'M IN PAIN!  Please help.  Is this surgery that dangerous that this doc wants me to decide if I want it?  I've heard they are pretty successful!  And, is it normal to let someone walk around on a knee that is injured for 3 months?
