HELP

I know synvisc is the latest and greatest with a majority of great things being said about it. Can this, or has this been used for the back with bulging discs or fusion surgery? I am assuming not, than is there anything similar to this being used for back pain since my spinal blocks of steroid and corizone do nothing for me and leave me in such  misaerable and excruciating amount of pain that I would rather die than move. Please, anyone with suggestions I have not heard of or that may be in practice that might help?

Hi there!

No, synvisc has not been used for the spine and is unlikely to be helpful with it. The way synvisc works is different from that of the steroids, and it is largely used for large joints such as the knee joint. Well, it would be difficult for me to comment on the best mode of management in your case without knowing the relevant clinical details (though I assume you have had a spinal fusion surgery for IVDP). It would be best to get this evaluated by your orthopedician to see what else can be done at this stage and for a possible referral to pain management.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
