Hard Painful lump on side of my knee

My husband has a hard painful lump on the side of his knee.  It has gotten larger and it is bothering him quite a bit.  He is 36 years old.  Any suggestions what it might be?  It is not soft like and abcess it is really hard and you can see it sticking out.  Thanks

Hi,
The swelling could be a bony tumor,it can be benign or cancerous.Consult the orthopaedician immediatley.Dont miss out .Do a blood work.A biopsy of the swelling will confirm the nature of the swelling.
Goodluck.
