Heel spur

by April2, Mar 04, 2009 01:34PM
Hello. I've had heel pain that's been getting gradually worse since last Summer. I finally was referred to a Podiatrist last month who said I had Calcaneal Bursitis. I asked for an X-Ray and just found out yesterday that I also have a heel spur. They want me to go back to the Podiatrist. Is there someone who knows more about this than I do who can help me out?
I would hope it wouldn't ensure surgery because I don't want that. Is there much that can be done, then, or do I just have to live with this? It seems worse. It used to just hurt first thing in the morning or if I'd been sitting for awhile or if I've been walking around for a long time but I'm feeling it all the time anymore. Any suggestions? I can't take Motrin or Aspirin because of the Crohns and I can't take Celebrex, either, because it has Sulpha in it and I'm allergic to Sulpha. I'm just wondering if there's anything that I can do.
Thank you

hi april,
calcaneal bursitis/heel spur or even plantar fascitis  are very much treatable conditions ( i mean without surgery).
Surgery  is only adviced if there is failure of conservative management.

All you need is some anti-inflammatory drugs with proper physiotherapy.

These exercises will aim at stretching your Tendoachillis as well as Plantar fascia. Bith should be stretched up. Needs to be done twice a day.
Since you are about to visit your doctor, you can ask him.
If any confusions, please feel free to post your question as a continuation of this page.

I saw the Podiatrist today. He wanted to give me a shot in my heel but I heard that's really painful so I didn't want to try that yet. He did give me some steriod medicine and said to check back in about 3 weeks and if it wasn't any better than I'm really going to have to get the shot. He said especially as sensitive and painful as it is right now that they need to get the infection in the Bursa under control. When he pressed on that spot on my heel I about went through the roof. I guess that's why he said that. Do I really have to get the shot? Will Physical Therapy help?
