Help in finding the correct specialty

My husband has been diagnosed with a C5-C6 herniated disc that is in immediate need of repair due to the amount of pain he is experiencing.  I am getting many different answers to my question and my question is this:  For this type problem, am I looking to get a neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon?  Also, I am told by one orthopedic that they take a piece of bone from his hip to put in his neck.  Is this procedure still used?
