Help me.. MRI Result... means ???

Doctor:
I hurt my back at work last Dec 3rd 2007 using a jack pallet to pull up a heavy cardboard with magazines in it. Got a MRI result last Dec 29th which I dont really understand.
MRI result:
At L5-S1 there is broad based right paracentral disc protrusion/minimal extrusion and annular tear which compresses the right S1 nerve root and mildly displaces the left S1 nerve root producing mild-moderate spinal stenosis right subarticular recess stenosis and mild-moderate left foraminal stenosis.
At L4-L5 minimal posterior protruding disc and annular tear plus hypertrophy of the posterior elements produce borderline spinal stenosis.
At L3-L4 mimimal disc protrusion posterior annular tear with no significant stenosis.

Should I have a surgery to get over with the pain?  I had 3 ESIs, went to PT, Go back to work on Light Duty. I still have pinched nerves, numbness at bottom of my foot and behind thigh and tingles from back to foot.  I would like to go back to my normal activity.. Not limited.  I couldnt take Oxocodone or other medicines... It upset my stomach. I only take Meloxicam and I dont think it helps.

Hi,

You probably are doing a lot of standing and lifting. The L-stuff is lower to center back area discs that are poking out or herniated, and the S-stuff is your spinal nerve cord, which is why you have tingling and numbing. Your discs and spine are setup like a necklace. The beads of your necklace are your discs, L-stuff. The string that passes inside the beads is your spinal cord, S-stuff. So, when the beads began to move outwards, they press against the string, which pinches it. When this happens with your discs, depending location, lower L, middle T, and upper C, you will experience the simples that you mentioned.

I have/had C and L issues. The surgeon I visited recommended that I suck it up as long possible, because surgery is risky. There is a 50% chance that I could be worst off. Steroids are bad as well because of the damage they cause to your disc as well as possibly your organs.

So, what I did was visited a chiropractor. It took several visits in a months span, but I enjoyed over two years of relief. I've also started wearing shoe inserts, which also gave a lot of relief as well. Profoot 1-2-3 are the ones I use. They are designed to relieve pressure from the heels, knees, and back.

You may also want to take a look at your sleeping arrangements. I haven't been able to find a mattress yet that I can sleep well on. Some are too soft, which caused me to almost have to crawl out of bed in the morning, and some are to firm, which I can't make it through the knight, if I do, pain will serve as my alarm clock. Well I hope this helped

Regards

Hi

Im not a doctor, just a member who is going through an injury myself(shoulder).
What has your doctor said about this hasnt he advised you on treatment and what your options are! sounds like you have alot of pain issues aswell that need to be addressed you need help with this,  I would go back to your doctor and ask for help ....... if he cant help ask him to refer you to someone that can!
I can relate to reaction to pain medication (upset stomach) the same thing happened to me!  I had to resort to alternative treatment acupunture, massage etc.

Hope you get the help you need!
