Herniated Disc and arm/leg symptoms

After a lot of lifting when moving residences I began to notice a strange feeling in right arm and leg (below knee).  It began to feel numb and my doctor told me to go to the ER.  A CT revealed proturding disc at C4/C5.  I had a MRI yesterday on the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. No results yet...  I have a lot of tenderness in the trapezious and deltoid area.  My pinkie and ring finger and wrist have some loss of sensation.  My lower back aches.  The symptoms intensify as the day wears on. My ankle area feels weak.  Would/could these symptoms be attributed to a disc problem??? I am really concerned about ALS or some other horrible disease.
