Hip Issues

Hip Issues

I actually have issues with both hips - but I will just address my R hip for now:

I have FAI: femoral acetabular impingement on my R hip. It was repaired by a hip surgeon in Seattle in November 09. He shaved part of the femoral head off to remove the impingement, and repaired the severe tears it had caused to my labrum.  I moved back in with my parents(to the Rocky Mountain area) to be closer to family.... anyway. In February, my pain had not improved post-surgically, and it was recommended that I have a MRI with contrast to see why. The MRI revealed that there were new labral tears and that there was new osteo concerns on my femoral head.

I have heard that recurrent labral tears are very uncommon, especially after osteoplasty is performed to repair the cause of the tears.

I am seeing a new specialist in Denver, and would like to be pain free, after suffering in severe pain for over a year, and hip pain all my life. Would it be reasonable for me to ask for him to do the Birmingham resurfacing on my right hip so that the joint would remain healthy until... like forever? I am looking for a good quality of life, with a goal of living life to the fullest, ideal goal is to run someday...

My stats: 35yo female. I am inactive due to inability to move or bear weight without pain. On anti-inflam meds, pain meds, at times steroids, etc. in order to get through the day.

I would appreciate any feedback an MD could give me...... My L hip questions will follow after I see what ya'll have to say!! THANK YOU!
