Hip Pain / Cyst

Over the past 2 months I have developed hip pain, more so when I move too quickly at an odd angle or when I lay on that hip at night. I went to my primary care doctor and she had an xray ordered, it came back with a benign simply cyst that we will check on again in 3 months or so. She gave me anti-inflamatories and said that if it gets much worse I can go to an Ortho.

What would you all recommend? The whole "cycst" thing has me very worried that it is cancer, so that Is not something I want to play with. I am 34 years old, I do need to lose a bit of weight and this cyst seemed to have come after I was using my treadmill almost nightly.  Just a bit freaked out at the moment.

Thanks!

Hi there!

Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. The cyst could be located in the bone or in the surrounding joint space and would need to be dealt accordingly. Other possible cause of hip pain that may need to be considered include infections/ inflammations, bursitis, tendonitis, arthritis, capsulitis, ligament/ tendon tears, growths/ masses, nerve impingement, avascular necrosis, fractures, dislocations, etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Meanwhile you may try some tylenol/ OTC NSAIDS and see if these are helpful for pain relief.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
