Horizontal tear in lateral meniscus: MRI findings, traslation

Horizontal tear in lateral meniscus: MRI findings, traslation

I have had knee pain since carrying twins, about two years now. The left side has improved but not the right. The right has gotten worse, until recently I was squatted on my knees, got up and had great deal of pain, knee swelled over a few days, felt tight and difficult to bear weight, bend, straighten, tension on back of knee and pain upon touching the lateral side of knee and so on. Appoximately 1 1/2 weeks ago (about 4 days after "injury") I had an MRI and the results are as follows: "Horizontal tear body of meniscus extending to posterior horn of lateral meniscus. Joint effusion."

I am having a difficult time getting into see an orthopedist. It looks like it is going to be at least another week until I see someone (which will be about 3 weeks since onset of severe pain), maybe longer. The swelling has gone down but is still quite visable, the pain is extending down my leg, and getting more sharp (rather than stiff), the clicking, popping and catching are becoming constant. I am dying to know what these results indicate? Possible surgery? If so what kind? What should I be doing in the mean time? Is it degenerative (I am only 34)? Can it be repaired? What kind of surgery would be most likely? Also, my hip is aching and the muscles along the outter side of my leg are becoming spastic, especially at night. I "feel" like I should be seen right away and feel like I am causing more damage but have had no one discuss the injury with me, translate the results (in laymans terms) or how to treat it in the mean time while I wait to see an orthopedist.

Please, help me translate these findings so I can start to process my options and help myself in the mean time.

Thanks in advance!
