How long with the pain last?

Over March break i was playing shooting hoops for basketball outside, pain started and an hour later i couldn't pick up the ball off the ground i was in that much pain.  The pain lasted for about 3 months slowly decreasing but if i sit down for long periods of time of turn a certain way it causes more pain.  So i got an MRI and the results that i had two ruptured discs in my back, i was wondering how long this will take to heal? and if i have any chance of playing basketball again? Also i know this is more common in older folks, but i'm only 17.
