I got caught in a conveyor and had a Crush injury with severe sprain-did I get the right care?

I got my foot crushed in a scrape conveyor. A heavy duty conveyor that scrapes the bottom of the shaft it rides in. I had my foot in an access panel and it was turned on. The paddle crushed my foot right behind the ball of my foot and then folded and streched my foot down and into the shaft. I watched my foot and ankle stretch out unbeliveably far. I managed to get out after it tore my boot in half. I had amazingly had not broken bones and no torn tendons. The doctor said I shredded the  "sleeves" around the tendons. I also had pretty bad laceration across the top of my foot that took 2.5 months to close and I am at 3.5 months now.
I had an MRI at the hospital and then surgery 30 hours after it happened. The doctor operating was a podiatrist. Since then I have seen him twice a week with weekly xrays and a nerve test last month. And for the last month I have been getting the electro therapy and some kind of heat treatment.
My foot from the crush point up is still swollen and burns with nerve pain(I am on Lyrica). I have very little movement in my toes. It feels like it is more because the front half of my foot is very stiff and hard. There is also very little feeling in the foot. And my ankle is still very weak.
My doctor seems almost irritated that I can't wear a shoe yet. I am still in a walking boot. He has got me a orthodic with ankle supports and says as soon as I fit into a shoe he will release me to full duty and we will be done.(this is a WC case, with my familys corp.)
I would be extremly interested in hearing others similar crush injury stories and also if this doc is giving me the best care possible, or at the very least, what is expected for this injury.
My main worries are the swelling and stiffness with the range of motion in my toes and if I really should be going to PT or maybe an orthopedist.  I have very little time to be running to PT twice a week so I have been avoiding it.
Anyway thanks for reading my rant. I would love to hear any advice, I have had a hard time finding similar situations on line. Thanks,John

Wow- sorry to hear about your accident. I can relate to your pain with the crushing injury although yours looks much worse. I am a 27 year old female and had the misfortune of having a four-wheeler trailer fall and pin my leg underneath. From my knee down took the blunt of the trauma. I did not have any fractures but I still have excessive swelling in my ankle along with hematomas  in my lower leg. I have weakness in my ankle and foot and numbness in my leg and ankle. I am on Darvacet for pain but doesnt seem to help much- although my stomach cant really handle anything much stronger. My accident happened about a month ago and does not seem like the healing process is working too well yet. I have no idea what the expected time for healing is- i just wish it would come quick as I am sure you do too. I just got my prescription to start physical therapy this week so we will see how it goes. I will let you know if it is seeming to help any. Take care~~hope your recovery comes soon. I will keep you posted.
