I need information

I recently was diagnosed with bronchitis.  I had an coughing fit which led a snap sound in my side.  I was rushed to the ER and they took chest X-Rays and said I had 2 broken ribs.  They prescribed me pain medicine and decongestant for my cough.  But the medicine is making me cough really bad and it hurts to cough because of my ribs.  I'm also having shortness of breath just sitting down.  When should I notify a doctor?

On April 20th I  broke 8 ribs...there's nothing they do for it except pain killers.  They don't wrap anymore because higher chances of pnemonia.  Dr told me, no matter how they heal is ok because they're still protecting your internal organs.

Your need  to do deep breathing exercizes to prevent pnemonia.

There's nothing the Dr. can do

3 months later and I'm still sleeping in the recliner.
Good luck

Apparently (especially) floating ribs are VERY easy to break.
I broke two ribs in two different occasions in these last 3 months. Both times while I did a sharp movement with my waist trying to avoid to fell.
In the last 6 years I broke 3 more ribs, two for impacts and another one pushing heavy weights at the gym at "leg press"....
It hurts coughing, laughing, laying down, getting up, sometimes sitting down etc etc.

Just be patient, it takes a good 3 weeks for the sharp pain and then another 2-3 weeks for the soreness.

I was recommended to do a bone density test, but personally (I am NOT a doctor) I don't think there should be need of a doctor for you, after you did the X-rays. There is nothing you can really do for broken ribs.
Just rest and be patient.
