Important, wire or metal plate?

The reason I ask is the person in question has somewhat of a compromised immune system, and has just had shingles. But due to the misdiagnosis of an A and E doctor, her wrist is fusing in a matter of days. She has to make the call of having a metal plate (she already has one in the other wrist) or a wire within a day.
The wire isn't as effective apparently, but the risk of injection is worrying, especially considering the immune system.

ADVICE PLEASE PEOPLE!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

If it is possible to delay the procedure then it is always good to take the best course of action. Discuss with the orthopedician if she can use a cast or plaster for the wrist problem till she builds her immunity if this is due to an acute infection problem. She can always take precautions not to damage her wrist further by limiting lifting of weights etc.

If the immunity is low due to chronic problems then there is no choice.

Take care!
