Injury to pinky finger

Injury to pinky finger

So the night before Thanksgiving I got in a motorcycle accident and injured my right hand when I landed on it. I have gotten a boxer's fracture before and thought that was the problem, but after two rounds of X-rays there are no signs of a fracture. I was told my wrist is sprained and since my pinky is pretty bruised up they gave me a splint to immobilize both problems. I am in college so I have been taking off the splint to take notes in class and to try and get my range of motion back. The problem is that after almost 7 days I still can't make a fist or write correctly and my pinky wants to curl under my ring finger which is not the case on my left hand. What other possible things could I have done? Tendon or ligament damage? I am very nervous because I don't want to do any permanent damage to the hand I always use!

Hello!

Give complete rest to your injured finger and do not take the splint out and let the inflammation decrease. With movements at this stage it is bound to remain inflamed. Use ice packs and also anti inflammatory drugs.

You have to understand that other than bone there are skin, fascia, muscles, tendons involved during injury and they need proper rest for recovery.

You can start some movement after a week if you are sure there was no fracture.

Take care!
