Hello!
Get your MCL clinically examined by an expert knee specialist orthopedician.
The MCL is tested using a valgus stress test.
In cases of medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury palpating over the ligament will range from mild tenderness in grade one sprains, to acute pain in more serious injuries.
In MCL injuries range of motion is often affected in severe injuries and is usually only limited by pain or swelling.
Depending on the grade of your injury the treatment type varies and with surgery it will take couple of months to recover.
Take care!
Thank you for your reply, my worry is that I am leaving to to spend my summer in Alaska on May, 27th. Im from Ireland and am really looking forward to it. If this needs surgery how long will it take to heal??
The medial side of my leg is brusiing and my physio said its my MCL but how can they know without an MRI. And trying to get one here is like my chances of winning the lotto. Very slim!!!!!!! I will try demand one but not likely they will listen!
So if this is discovered a few weeks down the line, will it take long to recover???
Hello!
I would suggest you to go for an MRI of your knee to properly diagnose any soft tissue damage.
There are 3 pairs of ligaments in your knee joint.
You have a pair or menisci, medial collateral and lateral collateral ligaments and a pair of cruciates.
Depending on the grade of injury to the ligament you can start conservative therapy and if it fails you can consider surgery.
Follow up with an orthopedician.
Take care!
