KNEE ACL Tear

KNEE ACL Tear

Hi,

Before 5 weeks i had an injury on my left knee while playing basketball. I took and MRI scan and the results are as follows.

1) Anterior cruciate ligament tear at its mid substance and femoral attachment
2) Linear grade 2 hyperintense signal in posterior horn of medial and lateral menisci.
3) Bone contutions involving lateral and medial femoral condyles and lateral tibial condyle
4) Mild knww left joint effusion

What does the above result mean? Is anything serious and a surgery required?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hello!

You have Grade II injuries to the menisci and also anterior cruciate ligaments.

You would need a below knee plaster or boot or brace to control the movements and to heal the ligaments in the knee. You should keep this for at least 4-6 weeks.

The other contusions and effusion clearly shows that you have an inflamed knee due to the injury in the left knee and you have some damage.

You can use ice packs and also anti inflammatory drugs to decrease pain.

If the healing does not take place as desired then you have to consider surgery after discussing with your orthopedician.

Take care!
