Knee Pain

Last thursday I had my right leg crossed over my left with my knee leaning against the edge of my desk while sitting.  A coworker thought it would be funny to hit my knee.  They hit me really hard right on the Vastus Medalius Muscle.  It was originally just a little sore but over the next day or so i didn't feel any pain.  Over the weekend I started to get more pain below my knee right on the Pes Anserinus Bursa that makes it painful to walk and run alot.  I have been icing it but what could this be and how long will it take to go away.  I just had shoulder surgery so the last thing i need i to have a knee problem.  Is it possible the blood ran down and gathered by the Pes Anserinus and this is all it is or could it have done something different.  If it is just a bruise or blood in the Pes Anserinus from the hit of the VM muscle how long should it take for this pain to go away?

Hello!

To know knee ligament tears/sprains an orthopedician will do some clinical tests to know about your ligament injuries. These are Lachman's test, anterior and posterior drawer tests, Mc Murray's tests etc.

If you go for an MRI you will be able to confirm tears. There are 3 pairs of important ligaments in your knee joint viz. the cruciates, the collaterals and the menisci.

Take care!

Hello!

As you had a blow or strike your muscle and knee will be inflamed and if the strike was strong enough you can also have ligament injuries in your knee joint.

The most important thing for you to do is to rest and avoid any physical exertion for few days and if the pain continues you have to see an orthopedician and consider some scans of your knee joint for a proper diagnosis.

Take care!
