Knee giving out and joint instability..

My daughter has terrible knees, and she walks around all day with a knee brace on... her knee gives out any time that she bears weight, but she can still walk without terrible pain. She says that it still hurts extremely bad when she walks on it, but the pain is bearable. Do you think I should take her to the doctor? We've been icing and elevating her knee now for the 3 days that she has begun to complain about her knee. What do you think I should do?

there are a whole lot of things that it could be, including an ACL tear, so she should definitely have it checked out.

good luck

Most definately you should have it checked out...many times "slipping" of the knee is caused by a tear in the meniscus (cartilage that protects the knee)...she needs to have it looked at, and more than likely have an MRI to definatively answer the issue.
