Knee replacement correction leg length discrepancy

Knee replacement correction leg length discrepancy

I have a leg length discrepancy of 1" +. It has been this way since an accident 30 years ago.  I recently had knee replacements. I have been told that the doctor could have corrected the discrepancy when he replaced my knee. I want to know your opinion on this. Also, my leg is actually now about 1/4" shorter than it was before the surgery. Is this normal?

Hi there!

Correction of a length discrepancy of more than an inch is not an easy process. While minor discrepancies can be adjusted for, complete correction during knee replacement is unlikely. Yes, there may be very minor variations in length after prosthesis fixation.
Hope this information helps.

Take care!
