LCL sprain

Hello, everybody

I am 41, I exercise a lot and I’ve been diagnosed with Knee sprain.
The doctor looked to the radiography and told me to rest for two weeks.
Four weeks later, the second doctor told me that, had I accepted a gypsum crutch, I’d have been cured in due time. And recommended me kineto-therapy.
The kineto doctor examined me more carefully than the previous ones, and confirmed that it’s only a sprain. I’ve undergone some physiotherapy and medical gymnastic, so I’ve been told my knee would recover fully its mobility.
There are more than three months now, from my soccer accident, and I still can’t play soccer, tennis or any other activity which involves sudden changes of direction and accelerations. Of course, my knee is better, but I wonder how comes that, after such a long time, I can only jog without problems. I tried to play soccer 3 weeks ago and, after a judicious warm-up I found with surprise that I can’t even do the lateral running, in the direction of my lateral collateral ligament that it seems to be affected.
Can anyone tell me if this prolonged pain is normal and, if so, how long will I have to wait until playing soccer again.

Thank you very much in advance
Lucian
