LCL strain c nerve

Hello,

My daughter is a high level competetive gymnast who is 12 yrs old.  She tweeked her knee on a dismount landing at her state meet this weekend.  The doc. there looked at it and said that she strained her LCL and her nerve as well.  She is experiencing foot drop on the affected side and a lot of pain.  How long does foot drop usually last and should it be painfull even when she is resting?  She did continue on after she landed and finished the competition.  She is also experiencing a zingging sensation if she tries to hop up onto something like a bed.

Consider a cold compression therapy knee wrap to aid healing of the existing condition and for use after any strenuous knee exercise. It will stop the pain and inflammation.  Once the knee heals, the other symptoms such drop foot should disappear.

I was a junior olympic usa gymnast for over 10 years. I know the tweak your are talking about. My best suggestion is to see your orthopedic at home. I have tweaked myself very seriously at competitions before and they have told me that I had a fracture that went all the way around my ankle and when i went to the doctor they told me I tore a ligament, and it had nothing to do with my bone. The docs at the meets are useful, but i wouldnt rely on them. As usual ice and ibprofen, you may not be able to rest it as much as you should but try your best to lay off the tough skills for a little while. Depending on how intense your skills are you probably will still have pain even outside of practice. . My teammate went to the olympics this past summer, and we trained together since I started.
