Landed on side of foot...do I need to see a doctor?

Yesterday afternoon I missed a stair and landed on the outer side of my foot.  When it happened, I heard a series of loud popping noises.  It hurt like the devil at first, and when I compared my feet, I noticed a small, bony-like protrusion on the side of my foot about 1/2 inch out on the foot that I fell on, just about in line with my arch.  The pain lessened when I was sitting down and the foot was immobilized.  By 3 hours later, the entire side of my foot was swollen and had a bluish cast to it, and walking on it was next to impossible, the only way I could get around was by doing some extreme limping and gritting my teeth.  The paid kept me up most of the night (shooting pain whenever it was moved or pressure put on it).

This morning, I was able to walk on it enough to get to work (trying to keep weight entirely on heel though), although I am still in a lot of pain. The side of the foot is still swollen.

Should I just wait a couple of days and if the pain persists go to the doctor, or is this something I should get looked at?

Hello!

I would suggest you to go for an X-ray and confirm if you have any fracture.
If you have a fracture you would dislocate it further by movements and this time is crucial.
Till then if you have a crepe bandage wear it, take anti inflammatory drugs and also do not put weight on that foot.

Take care!
