Lateral Release with VMO Advancement???????

Hello all.

Had a lateral release with a vmo advancement on June 26. I must say that this whole process has been the worst I have ever experienced. The pain after the procedure was really bad and now 8wks post op I still have massive swelling and pain. IS THIS NORMAL? Physical therapy is 3 times a week and i am able to flex the knee to 124 degrees but lost control of my thigh muscle. I was not able to start physical therapy until July 15 and now i am 27 with  a thigh that looks like it belongs on someone 87. Please help me figure out what can be done outside of the therapy to regain muscle control. I had the surgery because my right knee was dislocating and getting stuck on the side of my leg at least 3 times a week. so it was well needed but with all that im going through now im wondering if it was at all worth it. If anyone has had this combo before please help. What was your recovery time like and how long did it take you to regain muscle control? I know that everyone has a different outcome with every procedure but a little insight would be helpful. Please assure me that there is LIGHT at the end of this tunnel.

hey... just had the same thing done exept im 15. it absolutely terrible!!!!!!!! i cant even bend it to 100 yet and im in my second month... my leg is half the size it was... but my PT said to keep doing exersises everyday... i go to the qym 6 times a week... and keep working that muscle. although its unbeleivibly painful... i feel the results... non stop working is the ONLY way to get it bak.
