Lots of questions, no answers.

I’m a 37 yr. old female with severe bilateral foot pain which keeps me from bearing weight on my feet.  No trauma to either foot. I have seen 2 podiatrist, a neurologist, an orthopedist, an orthopedic surgeon, a general practitioner, a rheumatologist, and a chiropractor that practices acupuncture.

On my right great toe, I have a hard knot on the metatarsophalangeal joint, swelling, pain, and a red circle located on the metatarsophalangeal joint.  Both podiatrists said that it was a bunion; however, and x-ray did not show a bunion.  I was tested for gout which came back negative.  I’ve had an MRI, a x-rays, nerve conduction studies, bone density test, and a RA factor blood test.  All of which come back normal.  Needless to say nothing has been done since nothing can be found to “fix”.  The chiropractor said that the great toe was dislocated.  He put it back in place and did acupuncture around the area.  All of which relieved the pain; however, the pain comes back within a day or two which requires another treatment. Narcotics, muscle relaxers, nerve medication, cortisone shots, exercises, rest, ice, compression, and elevation does not help.  The other thing that seems to help this joint is aquatic therapy until I get out of the pool.  New Balance hurt my feet and make the pain worse.  I wear RYKA which allows me to bear weight on my foot.

On my left foot,  I have pain and swelling between the second and third toe.  Both podiatrists said that it was a Morton’s Neuroma.  Once again, nothing could be found on an MRI and nothing was done because nothing could be found.    Like I said, all tests come back normal.  Acupuncture helps the pain so that I can bear weight on my foot.  The acupuncture is masking the pain allowing me to function, but it is not treating the problem which no one seems to have any idea of what it is.

Is there another test that could be performed to see what is the cause?  What other conditions should I be checking into?
