Lower Back Pain/ Protruding sacrum- coccyx

Hello- I'm wondering if anyone would have any input on this...
This started almost a year ago, has been recurring, but has been constant and much worse the last few weeks.
It started with severe lower back pain.. now that it has been worse, I have felt my 'tailbone', which just does not feel right. It seems like (know it's not, but technically 'feels like') it is split in two! Possibly, not coccyx but sacrum? It is protruding and there are two huge bumps (heads?) to it, not one... .. with a 'dimple' near/ between the bones.. I have also been very constipated lately, and feel it could be related. The back feels better when bent forward, any arch in it whatsoever and it feels as if my back is going to break.. the pain is so bad. Lying, standing. sitting.. is all painful if not in the right position.. and the pain seems now to also radiate to ischium/ butt bones.. up the back.. down the legs.. tingling legs..
I could elaborate on additional symptoms, but this is the basis....
Any help would be appreciated ????
BTW, there has been no physical injury..

My tailbone sticks out too. So does my sister's. Some people are just born that way. Maybe you never noticed??

It does hurt when I sit for awhile and I can't sit flat down on a hard surface.  When I am laying on my bed on my stomach, it hurts pretty bad.  A few times my daughter sat on my back and it, like you,  felt as if it was going to break. I also have no curve in my lower back where I should.  Maybe you need to get an xray.  I have noticed that as I age and my butt has lost its muscle tone, I feel the bone more.

I read a story about a woman who always had a protruding tailbone and she had it removed through surgery. She recovered well and is pain free.

If you lay down flat on a hard surface, does it feel like something moves out of place down there?  Mine does.  I have told my physical therapist and he  said it has to do with my hips not being aligned properly.  Everyone has different explanations.  Who can you trust???

I have been having trouble for quite awhile now  maybe much worse in ther past 3 months . Not really back pain but hip sacrum area now radiation thru hips (right)  and calfs arms ache really bad also. stiff neck .Chiropracter says sacrum is locking and neck locks sometime too.  Off and on in past few years tail bone area has felt sharp and hurt to sit sometimes  but that would come and go.  The most sensitive part of my body has always been below waist on my back. If anyone ever poked me there it always hurt so bad. Even messages hurt there.  When standing very long I would feel so stressed in that area I would just need to sit a few min. then I could continue.  ANY IDEAS.

I have similar problems with my sacrum, and a physical therapist said I had a twisted sacrum, and had me lay on my side tuck my knees up to my chest, then turn my torso side ways towards my back and then she lightly pressed on my knees and I could feel the bone turn, and I had releif from the constant pain. I'd recommend going to a Physical Therapist or Chiropractor and asking to confirm if you have a twisted sacrum or a sacrum that is caught beneeth your pelvic bone.
Mine does reoccur, and often if I get out of the car with one leg and twist the rest of my body out, rather than putting both my feet out of the car then getting up, the twist/pain will come back...They gave me abdominal and back exercises which strengthen the muscles and that helped.

I have been doing some reading because of the back pain and pain going down my right leg. I would suggest you to read about Caudia Equina Syndrome.

I also have a protruding sacrum, just as you described. Feels like two knobs side by side right above the crease and on the side of each knob are my dimples. It doesn't cause much pain it is more of an an embarrassment versus anything else. Although I am sure if I were to fall and hit it I would be in big trouble. I have yet to see a doctor because I keep going back and forth on whether this is normal or not. I wonder if my butt is just too flat and that is why it sticks out? However I have been unsuccessful at getting it bigger and rounder and so my sacrum still sticks out. I don't know if I should see an orthopedic surgeon because again I keep thinking that maybe the bone itself is normal...oh I just don't know. Have any of you seen a doctor or surgeon about your protruding sacrums? I would love to know what your options were that you were given. Because if my sacrum is abnormally large I would like to think there is something they could do to fix it for me, such as cutting it down. Please let me know.

I have this problem too, and was looking around for solutions on the internet when I found this page.  Then I found THIS page: http://women.webmd.com/pelvic-floor-muscles

I think that my sacrum sticks out because of a weak pelvic floor.  Isn't that the craziest thing?  So I ordered a kegel exerciser and I'm going to get busy on the kegels.  We'll see what happens.

Every last one of you would do well to schedule a visit with your primary care physician to schedule a CT (which will show better definition of bony structures as opposed to MRI for soft tissue tumors) for evaluation of a possible primary sacral tumor. Although they are rare, it's something to be addressed for the sake of your health, not appearance.

Definitely this is a SI problem and a P.T. that specializes in the Pelvic Girdle can help. Gainesville Physical therapy  in Ga does. Come see us. We have patients from all over the world.
