I am a 24yr old male, recently in motorcycle accident I sustained a fracture in my left forearm (proximal left radius and ulna broke), following which I underwent a surgery (open reduction and interna fixation). I am a marine engineer and have to board ship and am required to do heavy jobs at times, can somebody advise me diet tips for speedy recovery and after how many months can I board ship?

It'll be a while. I sustained four elbow/forearm fractures in July of last year and cannot do heavy lifting yet. You have to start with the range of motion and gradually work towards increased strength. I just had the hardware out so am facing another recovery period.

Good luck and take care!

Hello!

There is no question of weight bearing or lifting of heavy weight for a period of 6 months from the date of your injury.

After 4 months get some scans done and follow up with your orthopedic surgeon to make sure that your healing is complete.

You should have proper protein diet and you can take occasional calcium supplements. If you can have meat and a glass of milk in your meals it would be sufficient.

Take care!
