Numbness in Fingers and Lower Back Pain on Left Side

I have constant numbness in my hands and fingers, sometimes the pain is worse than other times. Sometimes I can't even hold a pen in my right hand to write for more than 5 minutes because the pain becomes excruciating. It started in my thumbs and forefingers in my left hand and now it has spread to my right hand. I type a lot on the computer and the symptoms were evident about 20 years ago, but they were mild and only happened ocassionally. I also smoke, but I am not a heavy smoker. Could it becarpel tunnel. I am constantly taking ibuprophen to help with the pain.  I have to sleep with my hands down at my side or hanging off the bed to keep the blood flowing downward. I also suffer from lower lumbar pain, but it only effects my left side. I take long walks and push myself to overcome the pain, but sometimes it stops me in my tracks and I have to lean against something or stretch to alleviate the pain. The pain is worse when the barometric pressure is high.

The most probable cause is due to your lower back/lumbar pain.
Please go to your orthopaedician and go for a scan/MRI to diagnose the case.
The spinal nerves arrising from the back supply your upper limbs, lower limbs and most part of the body and the reason may be associated.
Ergonomics while working is very important and your seating posture has effected you as you are working constantly opposite the computer in a sitting posture.
Take care and visit an Orthopaedician/Neurologist.
