Oats Ankle

Oats Ankle

I am being scheduled for Oats ankle surgery using my knee as a harvest site.  What does recovery look like for a 52 year old female? Not obese, moderately fit but I do have a chronic vitamin D deficiency due to having low thyroid - it is stable now through medication.  Thanks so much!! Amanda

Hello!

OATS, osteoarticular transfer system, is a type of surgery called a mosaicplasty. Please take it easy for the first 6 weeks and as you are facing thyroid issues and vitamin D deficiency issues complete recovery may take anywhere between 3-6 months time.

You should take thyroid and vitamin D replacements and follow all instructions of your orthopedician.

Take care!
