Occasional alcohol consumption delay bone healing?

Occasional alcohol consumption delay bone healing?

Hello,

I was in a severe car accident 4/3/09. My tibia and fibula broke and came through my leg. About an inch of bone had to be removed from the tibia due to contamination, and a titanium rod was inserted into the marrow cavity to stabilize the bone. My latest X-ray and CT scan (7/14/09) show no signs of bone growth (non-union). I have since purchased an ultrasonic bone stimulator (www.exogen.com) and have been taking vitamin supplements (cal-mag fizz) twice daily. I am in my 20's and typically drink one night per week (5 - 8 drinks).

My question is, does drinking 5 - 8 drinks, one night per week have a significant effect on my bone healing? The only scientific studies I could find regarding this involved alcoholics, not casual drinkers.

Thanks!

P.S. I do not use tobacco.

5-8 drinks is not casual drinking and the day you drink the alcohol  you will surely disturb your metabolism. No alcohol during the treatment and if you drink limit to the maximum you can contain. Take care!

Thanks Dr. Vinod!

What do you mean by "limit to the maximum you can contain"?

Like a glass of wine, social drinking or a bottle of beer. It is your will power and if you can stop for 12 weeks, what best?
Do not stress your liver as all the drugs what you consume when you are sick are mostly metabolised there.
Eat healthy and take care!
