Hi,

I had a shoulder rot. cuff. repait for a tear in July 2011, then Nov. 2011 bicep tore had a bicep tenotomy. I am 58, have arthritis(osteo), and fibromylagia (fibromyalgia).
I go to PT 3x a week. I have severe pain in antierior shoulder and down bicep still. Like it was pre-op. Doc said as soon as he cut the tendon..no more pain. Was he wrong! I can't move my arm certain ways and the PT says my ROM is worse now than pre-op.
I saw Doc and he put me on a anti-inflam.(doesn't help a bit). I take 2 Loratab's 500 a day to no avail. I am very discouraged. He wants to do a cortisone shot but they usually don't work with me for I have had many.

I caught a 32 pack of spring water bottle out of my car..back in Dec. could I have torn something else in my shoulder? Any ideas folks???

Please help. He will do a MRI down the road. Can the bicep tendon he cut get caught on something in there?

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment on the situation. It is unlikely for a tenotomy to have gone wrong.  A more likely possibility is a secondary issue such as associated inflammation capsulitis, bursitis, tendonitis, injuries/ tears, etc. It would be best to consider a review with your orthopedician. After the condition is evaluated for, a management plan may be drafted accordingly.

Hi Dr. Kaul,

I saw my Orthapedic Surgeon after results of my MRI. He says now I need a total shoulder! I go from no pain in my arm to a torn rot. cuff in July and repair..still pain..then tenotomy in Nov. now he's saying I need a total shoulder. He says I have a fast progression(3 months?) arthritis. I have copies of my records, MRI and it shows a Labrum tear..which wasn't fixed in surgery. My pain is below my right shoulder, upper arm,mainly when I lift foward or to the side. It is unbearable like it is going to crack. I am on Loratab everyday.

Any insights???
