Osteochondroma?

Osteochondroma?

In Dec 2010, I have an x-ray done of my left foot because I thought I broke my little toe. The x-ray came back with an apparent stress fracture of the 3rd metatarsal. I had been asymptotic and continued to be for about 1 month. After thinking about would could a caused a stress fracture, I remembered in Jun 2010 I dropped a heavy chest on my foot at work. I asked my doctor if he thought that could have caused the stress fracture, and he agreed that it could have. In March 2011, I began having more pain, especially first thing in the morning and at the end of the day (the pain felt like bone pain). I had repeat x-rays done in March 2011, still showing the "stress fracture" the same as the previous x-ray. I was referred to physical therapy where I was treated with micro-current 3 times a week for 4 weeks. I was also had an small hole cut in my shoe insole, as an off-load (I think). After 4 weeks of micro-current, my pain had not changed.I also had a bone scan in April 2011 which came back normal. I was then referred to Podiatry. I was recently seen and he put me in for custom orthotics for off-load (I haven't received my custom orthotics, yet). My pain has actually gotten worse over the past 1-3 weeks. My pain is still in the same place 3rd metatarsal on the medial aspect and on the top of my foot (exactly where the x-rays shows some sort of abnormality). The podiatrist believes it is most likely an osteochondroma. From some articles I have read, most people have an outward growth, I on the other hand do not. My foot hurts the most in morning upon waking, when the area is pressed on, and with excessive walking, running, standing. I guess I want to know, at what point should I be concerned? Does this sound typical of an osteochondroma, if not what does it sound more like? Also should I be concerned that I basically at the year mark for trauma to my foot without progression?
