Osteomyelitis Recovery Times

Hello:
I am a 49 year old male. I recently (6wks) had surgery for osteomyelitis on my tibia. A 1 by 5 centimeter of bone at the front of the tibia was removed. The bone is growing back. Here are my questions: Anyone with similar conditions that could share timelines? How long till I can walk and participate ion sports? I am being told a year! I wrestle so the use of legs is important. Any athletes with insights?

Thanks

I had my right clavicle and partial sternum removed in 2001 due to osteomeylitis.  They did a muscle flap across my chest to protect any organs.  I still have pain once in a while.  I do not know how long you recovery will be, but be prepared for some pain for a long time to come, at least, that is how it is for me and I am not putting weight on my chest.  oakland56

Hi,
Basically you need to understand what is osteomyelitis and how were you managed surgically.
Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone.
Surgical removal of the the infected bone is the treatment. The removal of the part of the  infected bone would make it little weaker. Hence you  need to have  some time for it to heal. You can start walking by 6-7 weeks post surgery but to resume your activities (sports) would take 7-8 months and upto 1 year.
