Pain in Lower Leg after recovery

by kunit38, Oct 27, 2009 03:39PM
I broke my left leg (tibia, and fibula) last November of 2008 and I did not have surgery. I am now fully healed and have been playing basketball for about 3 to 5 hours a day for about three times a week for the last months or two. Just last week, my lower leg on the left side right near the area where i broke my fibula, I experienced pain there. It wasn't huge or obvious so I kept playing. i have only played once or twice with the injury but when it got bad, i stopped playing. But when it hurts, its a throbbing pain and im not 100 percent sure if its my muscle like my calf or my bone.
So i have two questions

1. what should i do and how can i treat it
2. is it normal for my leg to be swollen still.. the xrays showed and the doctors told me its ok, and it doesnt hurt unless i get hit, but is it normal for my leg to still hav a small bump?

Hello!,

1) The small bump in all probability is due to the inflammation and it will subside with rest and anti inflammatory drugs. You can also apply ice packs.

2) It is not normal for it to be swollen after proper healing after a year. Just need to clinically examine any problem at the site of inflammation. I would suggest you not to exert and not to do any practice sessions and if you continue to do in a slow and progressive way to avoid inflammation. You should also take a clearance from your orthopedic surgeon.

Take care!
