Pain in knee after fall over 1 year ago

Hi everyone,

I fell Christmas 2015 running for a train and fell on a large concrete step straight onto my right knee cap. It was cut and badly bruised at the time but over a year later I can't kneel on that area of my knee without it hurting badly I'd say 9/10 pain rating. When I put pressure on it with my fingers it also hurts. The location of the pain is under my knee cap. I've recently started running which mostly just makes the area stiff. Summer 2016 I also noticed when I would be sitting in the sun with my knee bent it would cause a burning sensation only in the right knee which was painful. Just wondering if you think it's bad enough to go see an orthopaedic doctor or will I just have to live with it?
I'm moving to Canada soon and because I'll be going skiing/snow boarding I'm a little nervous with it, also it would be nice to be able to kneel.

Thanks for the help,
Rachel
