Pain in the area of the collar bone

My 15 year old son fell down the stairs yesterday. He put his right hand back on the stairs to break his fall. Now he has pain in the area of his collar bone. It is swollen around the area of the collar bone. Could he have broken his collar bone?

Hello!

I would suggest you to start physiotherapy after 4 weeks of surgery.

Clavicle fractures mostly heal properly without any complications.

Check if there is any infection and follow strict hygiene. Go for present day X-rays and follow up with your orthopedic surgeon for a post operative check to rule out any complications. You can always take a second opinion.

Take care!

I broke my right clavicle on aug 14 and had surgery on aug 28 and I am numb below my incision. Has any one else experienced this before. If I remember right the dr was going to cut the nerv. Has any heard of that also.

Hello!

Any pain and inflammation after an injury may result in a fracture but you cannot be sure.
Go for an X-ray for a proper diagnosis.
Clinically follow up with an orthopedician if he has a fracture.

Use icepacks to ice the area and give him some pain killers.

Take care!
