Patellar realignment surgery

I had knee surgery (tibial tuberosity osteotomy with lateral release) 4 weeks ago.  Was wanting to hear from other people who have gone through the same procedure.  4 weeks on I can bend my knee about 30 degrees and I am getting a bit more voluntary control of the muscles around my patella.  My knee is still a bit swollen and I am still icing 2-3 times per day.  I go back to see my surgeon in 2 weeks and would like to know if others have been referred to the physio sooner as this will be 5.5 weeks after surgery.

I would also like some advice from people on how pregnancy would affect my rehabilitation.

I jsut had patella realignment surgery a cupple weeks ago. I was wondering what is Physical Therapy like? I had PT last year after a lateral release and that went well, but will PT be different since it was a more serious surgery?

Hi!

I will be having this surgery next Tuesday August 25, 2009.  I also have an appointment to start rehab next Friday the 28th and a post op exam by my surgeon on Wednesday September 2nd witch would be 8 days after my surgery and then have bi-weekly visits with him and I go to therapy 2-3 times per week.  If physio means physical therapy then that is really bad to start it 5.5 weeks after surgery as I will be starting it 3 days after my surgery so I will be back to normal way sooner.  I will also be coming home with an ice machine that will keep my knee iced all by itself.  I will first be having it done on my left knee and then my right in November.  He says that if I keep up with the therapy that I will be in a hinge brace after 3 weeks and be able to bear full weight and be almost back to normal by 6 weeks.  But I will not be back to running until a year.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!,

With Pregnancy your Physiotherapy cannot be aggressive. Your swelling will decrease with rest and icing and consuming intermittent anti inflammatory drugs.
You can start Physiotherapy as soon as you complete the operating surgeon's visit and the surgeon is sure that the healing was successful.

Take care!
