Piriformis issues...

Something else you should be prepared for is that issues related to "piriformis syndrome" have rarely been taught in medical schools to orthopedists nor neurosurgeons until most recently;  and to find a specialist that even believe this situation exists may be a chore for you.

WHY with medical advancement today? I have actually seen this muscle and yet many doctors say it does not exist for lack of their own medical knowledge. This is a REAL issue and I have experience this problem for years. I ma currently;y being treated by my doctor for related issues with this muscle but the process is slow and unnerving. I have reached my max on steroid injections and cannot get any more till Dec. Till then, the doctor is doping me up with pain medication which I do not agree with but have no choice. I have also been told to have a Spinal Cord Stimulator inserted but will this help with my current piriformis muscle issues?

I have contacted every doctor possible. I have had a history of this problem and been to orthopedic doctors, surgeons and pain management specialists. This issues with the piriformis muscle is something that the medical community has a problem with and the medical community NEEDS an education on how to treat these pain issues. How can I go to a doctor who when they don't recognize this issue? How much research do I have to do to get this issue recognized? The Botox injection I got, seemed to help and I am walking again relatively pain free. Something finally worked, does that give a clue?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

While milder forms of pyriformis syndrome can be managed by conservative measures such as stretching exercises, muscle strengthening, anti-inflammatory/ pain medications; severer forms may require steroid/ anesthetic shots. Prognosis is generally good and nerve destruction procedures are seldom used. I would suggest consulting an orthopedician for a detailed evaluation and suggestion of an appropriate management plan.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

Do we actually have any medical professional that can answer why the piriformis muscle is not recognized by the medical community? Would be nice to get some professional opinion if anyone has knowledge of this muscle...?
