Schlerotic Lesion in Right Hip Area
I went to the doctor with severe pain, inflammation, inability to rotate hip, and nerve pain in the right hip. After a x-ray, MRI, and bone scan they have diagnosed a sclerotic lesion and recommended I see an orthopaedic specialist.
What is the treatment for such a diagnosis?

I am at the same stage you are. I had a MRI Monday. I have Joint problems and just by chance on a painful night. I went to ER and that is when they did a exray of my hip. He came back and said he found a lesion on my hip. I have been going out of my mind. Everything I have searched for lesions on the net and every thing points to cancer. I go to Athens for mine. I could use a friend to go through this with me. I don't know about you but I have not told my family yet. It makes me crazy. I am Elaine. Hope we cat again. My e-mail is ***@****

She was diagnosed with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma. It was partially removed with surgery and luckily it has been shrinking some with chemo. We finish chemo in May. She has tolerated the chemo very well and is a very active little girl (www.caringbridge.org/visit/marlayna).

I feel terribly sorry that your little daughter has to go through all this.
Chemotherapy would be difficult to go through. I am a physician who specializes in child health too, hence more concerned about kids.
Has she being diagnosed with Astrocytoma Grade I? Is she underwent surgery for Astrocytoma removal?
As per your age if your hip lesion turns out to be a tumor then it could be Paget disease, hyperparathyroidism, Enchondroma if a benign lesion and Metastatic bone disease, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, primary mesenchymal tumors, Chondrosarcoma, MFH if found to be a malignant tumor.
I hope it is not a lesion at all and would pray for your daughter’s recovery.

I'm 35 years old with a three year old little girl undergoing Chemotherapy for a benign brain tumor partially resected a year ago. I need this situation in my hip to be an easy fix (probably why I haven't gone to the doctor already). So let's keep our fingers crossed!

As of now I can only say there is some growth happening in your hip bone which is causing all the symptoms.
I can tell you that your symptoms were indeed due to nerve compression due to this particular mass.
A biopsy is necessary to understand the pathology behind the lesion. It is also important to know whether the lesion is Benign or Malignant. Biopsy would also tell us whether the lesion is a primary lesion from the hip bone or any metastatic lesion.
How old are you?

One other piece of information. The intial xray showed moderate dengeration of the right hip bone, so something dengerative is going on.

Started out with episodes of nerve pain through the hip joint to the knee some three years ago (at age 32). It would be quite debilitating for a couple of days then go away.
In the past six months it has become quite a different experience. Sometimes my hip aches sitting or walking. I feel stiff and stove(sp?) up. Some times its just extreme soreness in the joint, tender when I move a certain way. I have no rotation in my hip at all. And I'm still having nerve pains. I walk slightly stooped over because I feel pain in the hip when I try to walk straight, holding up without a limp.
I felt like it was arthritis and maybe some sciatic (sp?) nerve issues, but neither the xray, MRI, or Bone scan make mention of it. Other than the hip issues I'm in perfect health.
No biopsy has been done yet, but I have an appointment with a Muscoskeltal Oncologist with Emory Orthopaedics and Spine Center this week. Would appreciate any insight you might have.

Can you tell me what diagnosis have they made? Whether a biopsy is done or not? I would like to know whether you have any additional symptoms apart from this?
