Severe Muscle weakness and fatigue

My son is 20 y/o and an avid cyclist and weight lifter. He is experiencing extreme fatigue and muscle weakness and can do neither of these sports even at low intensity. His resting heart rate is 90 but used to be 40. He takes supplements including magnesium and eats healthy.  He is type 1 diabetic and wears a pump with blood sugars well controlled. His CMP was normal. This has been going on for a couple of months. What are your thoughts? His endo thinks its muscle related.

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include stress/ anxiety, inappropriate diet,  micronutrient deficiencies, excessive supplement intake (Mg, Ca, Fe, Zn, Vit B1 etc.), anemia, hormonal/ endocrine abnormalities/ metabolic disorders, primary neuro-muscular causes, sleep disorders, systemic causes such as infections/ inflammations, electrolyte abnormalities, a few auto-immune, side effect of a few medications/ drugs etc. I would suggest considering an evaluation by an internist initially and depending on the cause diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
