Severe pain in elbow joint

Hello,

My question pertains to the joint in the elbow area that connects the lower arm to the upper arm.  My arms do not bend out all of the way, where they don't bend fully is in the elbow area.  I noticed this problem when I was about 12 but it's possible it was something I've had since birth.  When I was 12(i'm now 27) i went to an orthopedic doctor about it, but after some CAT scans they were never able to figure out why my arms don't bend out all of the way.  Until recently though it really hasn't bothered me a great deal.  However in the past few weeks, my left arms has been having SEVERE pain in the elbow joint area, but on the inside of my arm, not the outside specific elbow area.  This pain ranges anywhere from a dull constant pain to a severe stabbing pain every now and then when I go to bend out my arm.  The severe pain shoots pain all the way down through my thumb.  I've also noticed that the left elbow joint has been cracking a great deal as well lately.  I was just  curious if anyone would know what is causing the pain and if I should see a doctor.  Thanks for the help!

Hi,
If your not able to flex your elbow since birth, then probably you may have some congenital problem. Did you suffer from any trauma to that region. Is this on both sides. This could range from faulty muscular attachments to bone pathology. Now to comment more, would require a detailed clinical examination. The pain mentioned by seems to be due to compression on the median nerve.
The shooting type of pain needs to be evaluated and an ortho surgeon should help you out.
