Shoulder Injury

XBD
Hello everyone, had surgery in the summer of 2007 to repair and stabilize my shoulder with an arthroscopy. It was in rough shape and i have severe arthritis in the shoulder. Was in a sling for 6 weeks and my other shoulder started to take the beating and now today I went to lift something off of a shelf with both my arms and my "good" shoulder, the one i did not have surgery on seemed to clunk out and back into place. I've noticed swelling around the shoulder and have been icing regularly, but it just does not feel the same at all since this popping happened. It seemed like i blacked out for the split second that the popping occured, and am very very worried as i do not want to have 2 surgically repaired shoulders ...... any suggestions or feedback on this?? not sure what to do , havent gone to see a doctor yet as it only happened a few hours ago but deeply concerned, thanks. by the way i am just turned 19 years old and was active in high level  sports but now very limited

Thanks for the response and the comments you said were pretty much what the doctor told me that I seen today. Had an X-Ray done and the shoulder did pop back into place, swelling is still there and the joint is definitely loose and vulnerable. Hopefully I can get it back on track, strengthened, and hopefully prevent future dislocations.

Thanks again!

Hi XBD, how are you? It seems to be soft tissue injury and shoulder dislocation which you should not neglect as you have already suffered with the other shoulder a year back. Do not try to lift or carry any weight and also not to try to manipulate. Icing is good and over the counter pain killers can reduce swelling and pain. Pain gel with very gentle rub is enough. Since you are a sports person it is important to keep your shoulder is fit condition because trauma due to repeated minor injuries can worsen it further. I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated at earliest. Do take care and update on the progress.
