Shoulder post-op symptoms

Shoulder post-op symptoms

I had surgery yesterday morning on my shoulder to repair a rotator cuff tear and remove a bone spur. I received general anesthesia and a nerve block.

I was numb for most of the day yesterday after the surgery because of the nerve block, but since I have regained feeling I've been having symptoms that I wasn't told would happen.

I had a bad cough in my lungs, which they said was normal and was caused from the nerve block. After a few hours, though, the cough started to produce green and yellow mucous and was extremely painful (felt similar to bronchitis).

I had some mild throat irritation during the day from the breathing tube, but last night my throat was so painful that I could barely swallow. I looked at it with a flash light and saw white patches all over my tonsils.

My neck is a little swollen but very painful where they inserted the needles for the nerve block. I don't know if that's normal or not. I have a hard time moving my head from side to side because of the pain at the injection site.

Does anyone know if painful bronchitis symptoms, strep throat like symptoms, and a very sore neck are normal after a nerve block? Is it possible that I could have gotten some kind of infection from the nerve block?  I was never told that I would feel this sick or be in this much pain. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Better call your doctor, severity does not sound normal nor expected.
