Shoulder surgery

My husband recieved a cortizone shot in his shoulder a few months ago. Following his shot he began to feel weakness in his shoulder. After repeated visits and tests it seems that he will need surgery to correct his discomfort. His doctor told him that he will need surgery to see if his nerve is can be repaired. Additionally, they told him that if it can not be repaired they will need to take a nerve from somewhere else. My question is, could a misplaced shot have caused this? What will the surgery entale? What are the possible risks involved?

My question is, what kind of doctor administered the shot? Was it a pain managment doctor, a family doctor or an orthopedist?

Hello!

Nerve repair involve 2 main areas (1) when to do the repair and (2) what type of repair to perform. The cortisone shot may not have caused the nerve damage if given by an experienced orthopedician.

I think his surgeon is talking about nerve graft or nerve transfer.

You can take a second opinion and if this is the only option after MRI and proper diagnosis then he can plan for a surgery after conservative therapy with physiotherapy fails.

Take care!
