Skeletal Deformity Questions

Skeletal Deformity Questions

I’ve noticed for along time now my wrists looked different from everyone else, but I pretty much ignored it. My wrists always have pain in them and especially after activity. Sometimes it’s so bad I have to stop what I’m doing. The bone on the left side of my left wrist and the right side of my right wrist have a raised bone that’s causing pain and look abnormal. I haven’t found anyone whose wrists look like mine. Everyone asks me “did you break them” or “why do they look like that”. My mother keeps self diagnosing me to avoid seeing a doctor. She says “you’re probably double jointed” or “you might have arthritis” (she’s never looked up anything or seen medical advice, but guessing off the top of her head). I finally looked up “wrist deformities” and found what I have last night. It’s called Madelung’s Wrist Deformity. My wrists look just like the illustration described in this link: http://www.netterimages.com/image/12473.htm.

I also have an odd shaped rib cadge that’s causing me to have concern. My rib cadge is not shaped normal. The bottom half of my rib cadge curves out. My family doctor has acknowledged that my rib cadge is absolutely not shaped normal, but basically said “it’s not life threatening so don’t worry about it”. He doesn’t know what caused it. Note. I haven’t asked about my wrists yet and because Madelung’s Wrist Deformity’s not common I don’t think he’ll know what it is anyway. I’ve never seen a chiropractor or anyone about these conditions for financial reasons. These features have not been noticed because they’re always under clothing or they’re not commonly known. I’m a male who’s 5ft’5in and 18 years old. I've noticed I haven't grown very little since 14 and resemble a younger teenager.

I need something done about my wrists because the pain’s becoming unbearable. Though, I have great concern I have something much greater going on that’s went unchecked. Remember that I haven’t seen anyone about my conditions and they’re not well known. Also, I just discovered last night that I have Madelung’s Wrist Deformity.

What should I do?

I too have madelungs defomity. It can be very painfull and hard to do things. There is some surgery out there for some relief but not much. I was diagnosed about 8 yrs ago. As the years go on it seems to cause more problems for me. Both my elbows are also deformed and dislocated as well as both wrists. Anyone else out there with this please let me know. Thanks
