Ski accident - hip fracture or simply soft tissue injury??

I was hit in the upper right buttock while getting off a high-speed ski lift - it was the worst pain I ever experienced (worse than childbirth). The pain radiated all through my body - I wanted to puke, pass out, etc. The first aid station strongly recommended I go to a hospital for x-rays because I could have fractured my pelvis or chipped bone off it, but the hospital was far away and I was able to walk.  I never developed a bruise at the site, although it feels like the worst bruise ever, and I'm able to walk and sit without much pain.  I cannot lay on my right hip, run, or walk down stairs without feeling considerable pain in my hip. In fact, my whole pelvic girdle feels out of whack.  When I accidentally roll over and sleep on that side, I wake up with a dead-leg feeling and pain down my right leg.  Could this simply be soft-tissue and nerve injury?  Is a bone injury still possible given these mild symptoms?  I'm seeing my chiropractor tonight so we'll see if she suggests an x-ray.

Hello!

The first thing you can do is to go for an X-ray to rule out any fractures as you can displace any fracture by weight bearing and physical movements.
In absence of fractures you have to check for any soft tissue injuries due to the skiing accident. It can be muscle or tendon tears in the hip muscles or the upper thigh areas.

Follow up for further scans if required and visit an orthopedician. Take intermittent NSAIDs for the pain relief.

Take care!
