Spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury

Hi,

My father age is 62 and suddenly he got spinal cord injury due to an accident. By seeing the XRAY report doctors are saying that his one spinal cord bone is reduced by 1/2 inch and nothing is broken. The only treatment is to replace the bone by surgery.

could anyone please help me out with some other solution or if he need to go through surgery what will be the risk because now he can do all the job without any pain but if there is anykind of jerking he feel the pain badly.

Doctors are saying that this kind of surgery is not possible in India because of artificial bone which we can get only from the developed country like US or UK etc.

Will it be a problem in future if we will not go for any surgery?

Please help me on that ASAP with all the details.

Thanks,
Soum

Hello!

The most important thing is if he has any pain and other symptoms and the stability of the spine. If there are chances of complete dislocation and severe damage can be prevented then you can go for replacement.

As he has no acute problems, use a belt as a support and restrict intense physical activities. Try physiotherapy and strengthening his back and discuss conservative therapy with the orthopedician and whenever you want to go ahead for the surgery you can plan it.

Take care!
