Stress Compression Femoral Fracture

Stress Compression Femoral Fracture

Ok .... after long non-diagnostic, confusing period, MRI on 3/5 shows stress compression medial femoral fracture and marrow edema.  Apparently, my high pain tolerance and stubborn headedness allowed me to run until I cracked my femoral neck all the way across.  Subsequent bone density shows above average at hip and 4 lumbars.  Prescription: Actinol (sp) 1x/week, 35 mg, 4 weeks; 1200 mg calcium; crutches 4 weeks, "no running until 2009 - you're gonna be an eliptical, swimming kind of girl".

According to my research it takes 6 to 8 weeks for bones to heal.  Questions:

If I stay on crutches 6 weeks will my fracture close?  8 weeks?

Can I begin deep water running theray or swim with buoy and no legs prior to crutches end?

If I am perfect (ha), is there any way in hell I can particpate in 6/08/08 sprint triathalon I am already registered for in Austin, TX?  I am willing to swim, bike and walk the 3.1 miles if allowed.  If there is any way possible, what is the prescription?  If I could swim or bike, I'm perfectly comfortable not running until the day of the race.

I am currently at 3 weeks, 3 days on crutches.  I have not run for 9 weeks while we tried to diagnos and I was on anti-inflamitory therapy and "no running".  However, we were focusing on adductor pull, ligiment issues and/or femoral hernia so I was allowed to swim (breast stroke kick probably didn't help) and lift upper body.  My upper body consists of free weights so lifting plates and carrying them to racks was probably an aggravation to condition.

I am cheating now in that I do not use my crutches while I shower and get ready for work - 45 minutes/day.

Thank you VERY much for your time.  My ortho is one of my dearest friends and I feel like I do not get treated as an actual 'patient'.
