Surgical screws and rods

About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken.  I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt.  I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better.  How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?  I was told 2 years but I dont want them in that long so I am looking for a second opinion.

Over 9 weeks ago my wife had a plate and six screws fitted after breaking her humerus bone in her shoulder. Since then the scar has not stopped leaking puss (no infection) and a daily dressing has been prescribed. She is due to see her hospital surgeon again in 2 weeks time.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does it mean that her body is rejecting the plate and screws?

I had a ACL reconstruction in may of 08 and I have 1 screw in my femur and 1 in my tibia. The screw in my tibia is almost always painful, and I have a very palpable lump where it is and my scar from surgery is. My Dr said that the lump is probably just calcification and that taking the screw out may help with pain but the pain may leave on its own. My scar/screw still hurts 10 months later but maybe your paint will go away. :) Good luck!
